Financial Assistance for Architectural Conservation
Financial Assistance is provided to assist with the conservation and restoration of historic properties through schemes and funds administered by the Architectural Conservation Office at Mayo County Council on behalf of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
Further to the launch of the Built Heritage Investment Scheme and the Historic Structures Fund for 2023 by Malcolm Noonan TD, Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform at the Department of Housing, Local Government, Mayo County Council now invite applications.
The Built Heritage Investment Scheme and the Historic Structures Fund support the owners and custodians of protected structures and those in Architectural Conservation Areas to meet their obligations to care for their properties.
Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2023
The Built Heritage Investment Scheme is intended to assist with the repair and conservation of structures protected under the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended), RPS, and in certain cases, works to structures within Architectural Conservation Areas (ACAs).
Mayo County Council has a fund of €96,000 to allocate in 2023 and is now inviting applications.
The minimum level of funding awarded will be €2,500 up to a maximum of €15,000. A minimum of 50% match funding is required.

Historic Structures Fund 2023
Funding for the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) is being made available as part of Project Ireland 2040 and focuses on caring for and restoring historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public. This includes the following streams and levels of funding;
Stream 1 Minimum €15,000 – Maximum €50,000
Stream 1 Historic Shopfront Sub-stream Minimum €15,000 – Maximum €50,000
Stream 2 Minimum €50,000 – Maximum €200,000
For 2023, the HSF continues to include streams for Vernacular Structures and Historic Shopfronts.

The closing date for receipt of applications for the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2023 and the Historic Structures Fund 2023 is 4pm on Friday 27th January 2023.
