THE Small Firms Association has selected Big Red Barn as a finalist in the national SFA awards programme in the manufacturing category. The company, pioneered by Donal Byrne from Aghamore, has its headquarters in Swinford. The modular manufacturing company has moved its focus to the affordable housing sector and now has been shortlisted for a prestigious award. The modular home is custom designed and built by Big Red Barn. All roofs, walls and floors are highly insulated and the windows are AA plus double glazed.
There is a 25-year guarantee and the entire structure can be erected in just one day. Donal Byrne of Big Red Barn decided to develop and manufacture an affordable home that would give people the chance to own their own home without crippling themselves with a big mortgage.
“We have had unprecedented interest in what we believe is a unique product and our structures are in place all over the island of Ireland. Many people see the huge benefi ts of not sinking themselves in debt and the wonderful advantages of getting an affordable home in such a short time,” says Donal.
Sue O’Neill, chair of The Small Firms Association, at the announcement of the selection of the finalists said that small companies like Big Red barn have a significant role to play in delivering the additional 25,000 jobs that the Small Firms Association expect to be created by small businesses in 2019. The winner of each category will be announced at The Gala Awards in March.
