About Alice Lyons.
She has just completed last year the public art commission ‘Amphitheatre for Introverts (and Others)’ on the shores of Lough Lannagh in Castlebar, Co. Mayo for Mayo Co Council, She was also directly commissioned to be the artist/poet in residence at The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon when it opened its doors in 2005. She carried out a yearlong public art project there that was fundamental to nurturing the strong relationship between the community and the arts centre in its formative year. Alice lectures in creative writing at IT Sligo and previously in art & design at GMIT Castlebar and Galway. She is currently the inaugural poet-in- residence with the Yeats Society, Sligo.

A hugely versatile and intriguing artist and art lecturer on many levels Alice is currently the Reader in Literature for Advanced study in Harvard University USA. She was formerly the assistant commissioner for Ireland at the 53rd Venice Biennale. She also was the visual arts curator at The Dock Carrick On Shannon from 2009 to 2015. She holds a Ph.D in creative writing from Seamus Heaney Centre Queens University Belfast and an MFA in painting from Boston University. She was lecturer in fine art from GMIT from 1998 to 2009 and assistant professor or Painting in Maine College of Art USA 1995 to 1998.

About the workshop.
“Contradiction and Creative Process”
The workshop will focus on a series of exercises and material processes investigating creative practice. There will be writing and material practices used during the workshop.(More details to follow)
