Announcing On Sight 2018 // The Blaze
An art installation at The National Museum of Ireland – Country Life
On Sight is an annual art project that takes place in the National Museum of Ireland, Turlough Park, Co. Mayo. The purpose of the project is to have artists create work in a site specific location and to encourage visitors to explore the themes of the Museum through these art works.
It is a partnership project of the National Museum of Ireland, Mayo County Council, Mayo Arts Squad and independent artists.
This year the art piece is an exploration of the theme Suffragette. It consists of the installation of a golden tent and two figurative pieces embodying the female spirit. Inside the tent the walls are covered with the words, quotes and the names of Suffragettes. Each word or sentence is stitched, drawn and painted onto a rectangular ‘patch’ of fabric. These ‘patches’ are made by YOU, the public.
If you want to be part of this art installation you can attend the workshops in the Museum to make your own patches:
Wednesday 7th November 11am-1pm and a second workshop at 2-4pm and on Thursday 8th November 11am-1pm and a second workshop at 2-4pm
OR Get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org with your address – We can send you a patch and the words to choose from – You can make them at home yourself and post them back to us. I enclose some words and quotes and names, but you can also choose your own words, perhaps words that are meaningful to you from the women’s movement more recently.
The patches are on cream coloured calico and are around 15 x 10cm in size – postcard size. For the lettering we use the Suffragette colours – green, purple and white.
You can post your patches to: Breda Mayock ON SIGHT The Arts Office, Cedar House, Moneen, Castlebar, Co. Mayo Before 12th November and they will be installed in the piece. facebook.com/onsight2018/ Instagram: Theblazeonsight
