If you love live music, then a visit to the Mills Theatre at Foxford Woollen Mills over the coming weeks is an absolute must. Foxford Woollen Mills has again teamed up with Greenroom Bookings to put on a series of Sunday afternoon shows in this unique and intimate space.  This continues the series of Sunday afternoon music events presented by Greenroom Bookings at The Mills Theatre, Foxford Woollen Mills after a hugely successful inaugural series last November and December.

Upcoming events

Mary Coughlan is arguably one of Ireland’s greatest female jazz and blues singers, a true artist who has carved out a timeless and highly regarded career and a legion of devoted fans worldwide. Described as “Ireland’s Billie Holiday’ Mary has overcome childhood trauma, alcoholism & drug addiction to become a musical force like no other. Her seminal first album ‘Tired and Emotional’ rocketed her to overnight fame in 1985, and fifteen albums later, her ability to deeply connect with both the song & her audience remains undiminished, a testament to her inner strength and to the power of transformation & redemption. Mary live is in a league of her own, her glorious husky voice pulling every ounce of emotion from the music. This is the real thing, sung from the depths of a woman’s heart and soul, a survivor who (to paraphrase Leonard Cohen’s famous words) “was born with the gift of a golden voice.”

Hailing from Mayo, VICKERS VIMY craft songs that dwell on the borders of folk and Americana. Rich eclectic sounds anchor lyrical themes of scratched vinyl nights and hazy Sunday mornings. Their second album “Atlas of Hearts” was released in 2018, which the lead single “Chicago” is gaining notable attraction. Co-headling the stage with Vickers Vimy is a very special guest, Emma Langford. Winner of the prestigious RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards’ ‘Best Emerging Artist’ and nominated for the Irish Post Music Awards’ ‘Best Folk Act’, Emma Langford has wasted no time in establishing herself on the Irish and international folk scene. Emma Langford’s distinctive voice is described by song-writing legend Phil Coulter as “a breath of fresh air”. She deftly blends traditional Irish lilt with folk and jazz nuances, while delicate guitar work complements a clear intuitive sense of melody. This combination will make for a perfect show in the atmospheric setting of the Mills Theatre at Foxford Woollen Mills.

17 February  – GREENSHINE

Greenshine is a Cork based family trio comprising Noel Shine, Mary Greene and their daughter Ellie. Their material straddles the boundaries of contemporary, folk and roots and includes many self-penned songs. The band is known for striking family harmonies and excellent musicianship. Noel is a multi-instrumentalist and his musical dexterity had seen him much in demand as a session and band player by artists as diverse as The Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem and The Republic of Loose. Mary brings rhythm guitar to the mix and her voice is a wonderfully versatile instrument. Ellie Shine grew up surrounded by music and has been performing in concerts and festivals since the age of 13 including an appearance with Greenshine for President Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina at The Abbey Theatre. Despite her tender years, Ellie has featured on 4 recordings to date. She accompanies herself on the ukulele.
