The family fun begins immediately at the Entrance to Féile and continues on every part of the Museum grounds and into the Museum Galleries. Visitors to Féile na Tuaithe can watch and participate in craft and traditional skills demonstrations, enjoy family games and puppet shows, relax with music and dance, and do a bit of browsing or shopping from a variety of food and craft retailers. The Museum galleries and the Folklife collection provide inspiration for two days of living traditions.
Raghnall Ó Floinn, Director of the National Museum of Ireland says of Féile,
‘If the Museum of Country Life is very much about the lives of ordinary people in rural Ireland in the relatively recent past, Féile na Tuaithe links traditional and contemporary craft practices. It is an extension of the Museum’s remit to bring the craft dimension of the lives of our recent ancestors to public attention in an enjoyable and family-friendly way.’
Planning is well underway now for Féile na Tuaithe 2016. As well as welcoming back the Féile na Tuaithe favourites including craft demonstrations, animals, musical entertainment, children’s events, family workshops, visitors can expect some new surprises bound to become new favourites by the end of the weekend!
There is fun for all ages in the Family Village, including nature trails, puppet shows, face painting, art and craft projects, storytelling, musical performances, traditional games and more. Watch the West of Ireland Spaniels at work and play, and learn about beekeeping. Stroll through the grounds, taking in the dramatic large scale art projects from the On Sight Exhibition. Watch Vintage Farm Machinery at work, including the thresher, and visit the Folklife exhibitions in the Museum Galleries.
There is something for everyone at Féile na Tuaithe!
