Claremorris Company CBE creates 40 new jobs

Claremorris based tech firm CBE Software is to create 40 new jobs in an R&D-led expansion that will see the company’s workforce expand to 150 people by the end of 2017.

CBE, which was founded in 1980, develops and supplies point of sale solutions for the retail and hospitality sectors. The company sells its products mainly to the independent retail groups and hospitality markets, it is the largest indigenous retail IT player in Ireland.

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny was at the official announcement of the new jobs and planned expansion on Saturday at the CBE plant in Claremorris, speaking at the announcement he said,

“Gerard Concannon and the CBE team deserve enormous credit for what they have created here in Claremorris. Their export-led expansion into markets like the UK ensures that CBE will continue to grow and with plans afoot to enter the US market the future is incredibly bright for CBE which is a great boost to the local and national economy,”

Speaking about their continued growth and success CEO Gerard Concannon said, “Innovation through continuous research and development has been the cornerstone of our business and it is through this that we have increased our market share in Ireland and significantly grown in our export markets year-on-year,”

CBE is a major exporter of software solutions with installations in Canada, Australia, The Isle of Man, and Algeria and following significant market research are preparing to enter the US market.

CBE’s client list includes; James Hall Group (UK), Sewell Retail (UK), Musgrave, SuperValu, Centra, BWG, Spar, Mace, Costcutter, Gala, Spar UK, Louis Fitzgerald Group, Aramark, Elior, Compass, IBM and Bewleys.

Its plans to create 150 jobs by 2017 will see them employ people within software development, customer support, sales and service roles with the majority of the positions to be filled by graduates.

Gerard Concannon, CBE’s CEO, said that the “High quality of graduates from the third level colleges in Ireland has given us a real competitive advantage over the international competitors within the IT sector.”

The jobs are being created with the support of Enterprise Ireland, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny stated that high speed broadband in the south Mayo town, as well as the graduates from GMIT/NUIG and the continued success and growth of Ireland West Knock Airport, all contribute to CBE’s success and the government will continue to do all it can to encourage companies like CBE.
