Carr & Son Seafood Ltd at top of Irish seafood sector

The Killala-based seafood processing enterprise , Carr & Son Seafood Ltd, is to merge with Ireland’s strongest sea food company, HJ Nolan Ltd, next March. Established in 1946 , Carr & Sons was acquired by the Swedish seafood company, Mondi AB, in 2014 while Nolan’s Quality Seafood has been in the ownership of the one family ever since its foundation in 1912.
Both firms produce a range of the finest quality fresh and smoked fish products.
The merger will result in the creation of the strongest seafood business in the Irish seafood sector with Carr’s craftsmanship complementing the strength of HJ Nolan Ltd and both firms having a well-matched product range and market coverage. In a statement issued last Wednesday, the two companies said: “With much in common, the amalgamation will success fully keep customers at the leading edge of fish processing through innovation and quality.
” Under the merger , Carr & Sons Sea food Ltd’s Grade A (British Retail Consortium accreditation) facility at Killala pier will be supported by a Dublin-based sales offices, positioning the firm well to navigate the future: “Mutually determined to enthusiastically seize opportunities and face uncertainties, the companies also intend to maintain their commitment to environmentally – friendly business practices,” last week’s statement read. Commenting on the merger announcement, Erling Charleson, owner and founder of Mondi Group AB , said he is confident that it will signal an exciting new chapter for both firms
