100,000 Announced for Bowers Walk and 96,000 for Achill Greenway

2 projects in county Mayo have been allocated funding under the government’s Outdoor Recreation Infrastructural Scheme.
Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring has announced 96,000 euro for Achill Greenway and 100, 000 for the Bowers Walk in Ballinrobe.

The Minister says the 2.2 million euro national scheme is part of the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development and provides funding for the creation of new outdoor recreational infrastructure such as trails, cycleways and blueways, as well as the maintenance, enhancement and promotion of existing infrastructure.

He told Midwest News today that €100,000 is to improve the pathway, improve access to the river and signage on the Bowers Towpath in Ballinrobe. While €96,000 has been allocated for the construction of a greenway from Achill Sound to Saula.
