Joe Loftus is currently Director of Services for Corporate Affairs and has worked his entire career in Mayo County Council. He has held this position since 2001. His area of responsibility covers a wide remit including Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Emergency Services, Libraries, Heritage and Ballina Municipal District. He is a member of Mayo County Council’s Senior Management Team under the overall direction of Chief Executive Peter Hynes.
Joe was acting County Manager during the early stages of the Pullathomas landslides emergency – regarded by many as one of the finest examples of a local authority led response to a major emergency.
Prior to his appointment as Director of Services in 2001 he worked in the Personnel/HR department for many years with responsibility for training and development and industrial relations.
A strong advocate for shared services, he was given the lead role in securing the highly successful and award winning Regional Training Centre for Mayo County Council despite stiff competition from other counties in the region. He also led the establishment of the regional emergency control centre Camp West with Mr Seamus Murphy (Chief Fire Officer).
Throughout his career he initiated and secured many national awards and recognitions for Mayo County Council including an Excellence Through People Gold Standard award, numerous O2 Ability awards, safety, health and welfare awards and many other awards too numerous to list.
Joe is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and holds a master’s degree in public administration.
