Mayo's second largest island in terms of both size and population (around 200) is Clare Island. Lying a short ferry ride away from Roonagh Pier (near Louisburgh), Clare Island has a number of great walks, beaches and friendly island accommodation and fare.
As you arrive, you'll be welcomed by one of Grace O'Malley's castles near the pier. From there, you can explore the island on foot, by bike (bike hire nearby) or by taxi. The island is full of amazing scenery and will keep the outdoor enthusiast busy for weeks!
Regular ferry service (see below) connects you with the island daily year round and with great frequency in summer.

Inishturk is located to the southwest of Clare. Like it's bigger counterpart, Inishturk has amazing sea views and outdoor activities. The island's 100 residents are extremely welcoming and host several events each year where the visitor can experience real island craic! Food and lodging are availalbe on the island and there is regular ferry service from Roonagh Pier.
Major events include the Traditional Weekend and the Regatta (see the website below for dates & details).
