Mayo's Communities

County Mayo has a population of over 120,000 people divided between dozens of towns and villages making Mayo a county of small communities rather than big cities.

Because of this, each town and village has its own unique characteristics and attractions.

While Mayo would be mostly known for its outdoor sports (angling, boating, surfing, walking, cycling, etc.), its towns offer a wide array of museums, shops, restaurants, pubs, artists and artisans.  You can partake of virtually any activity you can think of somewhere in Mayo!

Additionally, Mayo's towns have a large number of festivals and events ranging from Blues in Castlebar, Heritage in Ballina, Arts in Westport and Claremorris to the Regatta on Inishturk.  You'll also find music and traditional days in a number of towns and villages.

Visit the links at left to learn more about some of Mayo's towns and to plan your visit!
