Visit the
National Museum of Ireland Country Life throughout the year. Special events such as the Féile Na Tuaithe are held annually in May and Turlough Heritage Day & Duck Race.

The name Turlough is the English of Turlach which is the name of the lake that used to dry up for part of the year, the lake now in the grounds of the National Museum of Ireland, Country Life
Getting to Turlough
- By Rail: Castlebar is the closest station and is on the main Dublin-Westport route. For timetables and more information, visit Irish Rail.
- By Car:
- from Dublin, follow the N5 for Westport. Turn off after Ballyvary when signposted for Horkan’s Garden Centre & the National Museum of Ireland Country Life
- from Galway, follow the N17 for Castlebar. Then travel out the N5 approx 5 miles before turning off left when signposted for Horkan’s Garden Centre & the National Museum of Ireland Country Life
- from Sligo, follow the N17 and then the N5 and turn off after Ballyvary when signposted for Horkan’s Garden Centre & the National Museum of Ireland Country Life
- By Bus: Serviced twice a day with a bus going to & from Ballina to Castlebar. For timetables and more information, visit Bus Eireann.
- By Air: You can fly to Knock Airport (IWAK) from a number of UK and European locations. Visit the Ireland West Airport Knock website for schedules and carriers. Approx 40mins drive from Turlough.

Education
There is no primary school in the village of Turlough so children at primary level attend Parke, Ballyvary Central, Breaffy or Castlebar. Secondary School children attend either Balla or Castlebar. There are two playschools for pre-school children located between Turlough Village & Breaffy Village.
Sport
There are strong roots in GAA via Parke, Keelogues, Crimlin GAA & Bord N’Og Clubs. There is also a Community Games group, known as the Turlough Towers. There is also a Foroige group which meets every Friday night for 13-17yr age group. For the older members of the community, we have a weekly card game on Wednesday night and a social group on Thursday night that plays Bocce. There are also places to go fishing and walking in the locality.
