This latest community initiative by the Killala Community Council aims to bring Killala into the high-tech world of e-commerce, and in the process raise much needed funds for local heritage and enterprise projects.
The site, which is directly accessible at the url: www.kbay.ie or as a link from the main Killala Community Council website, www.killala.ie, will feature locally sourced, new and second hand products, which can be purchased online using either PayPal or credit card. It will also be possible to purchase vouchers for local shops and services – an ideal present.
The site will also feature a Community Notice Board and an Events cCalendar, accessible from the killalabay.ie link on the main page
The Notice Board which has a ‘post-it note’ type interface, will host community notices of all types – ranging from ‘room-to-let’ to ‘babysitting services’ to ‘guitar lessons’, etc. Notices can be posted for a maximum of two weeks at a time.
The Events Calendar will highlight all events taking place in the area on a day by day basis – at the click of a button. Community groups, sports clubs, etc, are invited to notify the Killala Community Council of their event so that it can be included in the calendar.
Further enhancements to kBay are in the pipeline, including a major race night event planned for St. Patrick’s Day 2012.
As the site is on the world wide web, it is accessible by both the local community and the Killala Diaspora all over the world. It is hoped that the site will act as a focus to bring these groups closer together, and additional site features are planned which will facilitate this.
