The Mayo Associations World Convention last weekend was a great success.
The Mayo Associations met for their eleventh world-wide conference last weekend in Westport.
It was a busy weekend for the delegates who came from the UK, US and Australia. The weekend kicked off with a Civic Reception at Westport Town Council where Westport Town Mayor Teresa Maguire welcomed the associations to Westport. Minister Michael Ring was also on hand to meet and greet the delegates. A dinner for the delegates followed.
Saturday was a busy schedule of briefings on a variety of topics whose highpoint was an address from President Mary McAleese.
The talks focused on future opportunities in Mayo, particularly in the area of renewable energy.
The event was well attended with around 340 people attending the gala dinner on Saturday, with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny as speaker. The dinner was preceeded by an honour guard presentation in front of the venue.
A big congratulations to the Mayo Associations of Dublin and Galway who organised the convention. These two groups took excellent care of all of the visitors and made everyone feel especially welcome to Mayo.
